I am very concerned about the "Mideast Peace Conference" being put on by President Bush. It seems like every time we pressure Israel to give up its land, "acts of God" seem to tear us up. This country is in enough trouble without the President pursuing this legacy grabber. Since Carter did it in the 70s, every President has felt the need to try it and see if he can be "the one who brokered a lasting Mideast peace," especially if it's a second term presidency.
You have to wonder if we'll ever get it. Gee, pressure Israel to barter land for peace--something that's never worked!--and somehow we end up with a natural disaster or some other unforeseen event negatively impacting the nation. Most of the country's dogs could understand this logic, so why can't our leadership? One word: hubris.

I would think the punishment for land theory a little less coincidental if the punishment hit the whole country at once. It seems that when and if God was unmerciful enough to actually use punishment as a motivator it affected entire civilizations. But you’re right it is much easier and convenient to go with the status quo. Not to mention the kudos that comes with it. i.e. if one says what the church wants to hear and believe one is allowed in. Not saying that that is what you’re doing, but as for the rest of them, well, maybe taking the easy way is the easy way. 170 countries. How many oppose Israel? How many have sudden disasters because of it. How many were impoverished and starving before Israel was even an issue? How many don’t really care? Or is the U.S. the only one that should be punished for meddling? And if so, how did we ever inherit that much authority over the subject from God? Does God actually cause the punishment or does He just allow it? If He Just allows it to happen, what actually caused it. Too many questions as far as I’m concerned. Or we can all just sit back in fear awaiting the recompense for something only a few had a hand in. I know this sounds a little harsh, but if we were actually spreading the gospel instead of everybodies version of Christianity integrated with everything from avaricious capitalism to extreme prejudices, the world would actually see Islam for what it is. America has failed itself that way. It doesn’t have to rely on punishment from above. On the other hand, the world killed Christ, what makes me think that it even wants to hear the truth.
I hadn't really thought about it, but I think you're right.
Personally, I don't believe in coincidence.
And it's hard to have peace in the Middle East when at least one side doesn't want it!
